for I hear the sound of the trumpet,
the alarm of war.

Jeremiah 4:31

31For I heard ba cry as of a woman in labor,
anguish as of one giving birth to her first child,
the cry of the daughter of Zion gasping for breath,
cstretching out her hands,
Woe is me! I am fainting before murderers.”

21For the wound of dthe daughter of my people is my heart wounded;
eI mourn, and dismay has taken hold on me.

Jeremiah 9:1

1
Ch 8:23 in Hebrew
gOh that my head were waters,
and my eyes a fountain of tears,
that I might weep day and night
for the slain of hthe daughter of my people!

Jeremiah 17:13

13O Lord, ithe hope of Israel,
jall who forsake you shall be put to shame;
those who turn away from you
Hebrew me
lshall be written in the earth,
for mthey have forsaken nthe Lord, the fountain of living water.

Lamentations 1:2

2 oShe weeps bitterly in the night,
with tears on her cheeks;
pamong all her lovers
she has qnone to comfort her;
rall her friends have dealt treacherously with her;
they have become her enemies.

Lamentations 1:12-22

12 “Is it nothing to you, all syou who pass by?
tLook and see
if there is any sorrow like my sorrow,
which was brought upon me,
which uthe Lord inflicted
on vthe day of his fierce anger.
13 From on high he wsent fire;
into my bones
Septuagint; Hebrew  bones and
he made it descend;
yhe spread a net for my feet;
he turned me back;
zhe has left me stunned,
faint all the day long.
14 “My transgressions were bound
The meaning of the Hebrew is uncertain
into aba yoke;
by his hand they were fastened together;
they were set upon my neck;
he caused my strength to fail;
the Lord gave me into the hands
of those whom I cannot withstand.
15 “The Lord rejected
all my mighty men in my midst;
he summoned an assembly against me
to crush my young men;
acthe Lord has trodden as in a winepress
the virgin daughter of Judah.
16 For these things adI weep;
my eyes flow with tears;
for aea comforter is far from me,
one to afrevive my spirit;
my children are desolate,
for the enemy has prevailed.”
17 agZion stretches out her hands,
but ahthere is none to comfort her;
the Lord has commanded against Jacob
that his neighbors should be his foes;
Jerusalem has become
a filthy thing among them.
18 ai“The Lord is in the right,
ajfor I have rebelled against his word;
but hear, all you peoples,
and see my suffering;
akmy young women and my young men
have gone into captivity.
19 “I called to almy lovers,
but they deceived me;
my priests and elders
perished in the city,
while amthey sought food
to revive their strength.
20 Look, O Lord, for I am in distress;
anmy stomach churns;
my heart is wrung within me,
because I have been very rebellious.
aoIn the street the sword bereaves;
in the house it is like death.
21 “They heard
Septuagint, Syriac Hear
aqmy groaning,
yet arthere is no one to comfort me.
All my enemies have heard of my trouble;
asthey are glad that you have done it.
You have brought
Syriac Bring
the day you announced;
aunow let them be as I am.
22 av“Let all their evildoing come before you,
and deal with them
as awyou have dealt with me
because of all my transgressions;
for axmy groans are many,
and aymy heart is faint.”

Lamentations 2:11-22

11 azMy eyes are spent with weeping;
bamy stomach churns;
bbmy bile is poured out to the ground
bcbecause of the destruction of the daughter of my people,
bdbecause infants and babies befaint
in the streets of the city.
12 They cry to their mothers,
bfWhere is bread and wine?”
bgas they faint like a wounded man
in the streets of the city,
as their life is poured out
on their mothersbosom.
13 What can I say for you, bhto what compare you,
O daughter of Jerusalem?
biWhat can I liken to you, that I may comfort you,
O virgin daughter of Zion?
bjFor your ruin is vast as the sea;
who can heal you?
14 bkYour prophets have seen for you
false and deceptive visions;
blthey have not exposed your iniquity
to bmrestore your fortunes,
bnbut have seen for you booracles
that are false and misleading.
15 All who pass along the way
clap their hands at you;
bpthey hiss and wag their heads
at the daughter of Jerusalem:
“Is this the city that was called
bqthe perfection of beauty,
brthe joy of all the earth?”
16 bsAll your enemies
rail against you;
they hiss, they gnash their teeth,
they cry: “We bthave swallowed her!
Ah, this is the day we longed for;
now we have it; buwe see it!”
17 The Lord has done what he purposed;
he has carried out bvhis word,
which he commanded bwlong ago;
bxhe has thrown down bywithout pity;
bzhe has made the enemy rejoice over you
and exalted the camight of your foes.
18 Their heart cried to the Lord.
O cbwall of the daughter of Zion,
cclet tears stream down like a torrent
cdday and night!
ceGive yourself no rest,
cfyour eyes no respite!
19 Arise, cgcry out in the night,
at the beginning of the night watches!
chPour out your heart like water
before the presence of the Lord!
ciLift your hands to him
for the lives of your children,
cjwho faint for hunger
at the head of every street.”
20 Look, O Lord, and see!
ckWith whom have you dealt thus?
clShould women eat the fruit of their womb,
the children of cmtheir tender care?
Should cnpriest and prophet be killed
in the sanctuary of the Lord?
21 In the dust of the streets
colie the young and the old;
cpmy young women and my young men
have fallen by the sword;
cqyou have killed them in the day of your anger,
slaughtering crwithout pity.
22 You summoned as if to csa festival day
ctmy terrors on every side,
cuand on the day of the anger of the Lord
no one escaped or survived;
cvthose whom I held and raised
my enemy destroyed.

Lamentations 3:48

48 cwmy eyes flow with rivers of tears
because of the destruction of the daughter of my people.
